This Week in Cougar Territory - 11/06/2023
Esteemed Parents/Guardians/Teachers/Students:
Â
Welcome to Quarter 2: Week 3.Â
Â
Today the students had their only full-length school day of the week. On November 7th and 8th students will be dismissed at 1105. Our faculty will be working on a self-assessment in preparation for our accreditation visit in February from Cognia. You will be hearing more and more about that event as our visit draws nearer. Thursday will be an early release day as always (1350). On Friday, November 10th we observe Veteran’s Day. Â
Â
Last Friday, we hosted our Parent/Teacher conferences in a hybrid format of walk-ins and scheduled appointments. Any feedback good, bad, or otherwise is very much appreciated. We are always trying to improve the experience for parents. Â
Our faculty is acutely aware of recent deployments in our community. We requested more information to support our students with deployed family members. For obvious reasons, we cannot be given a list of families with deployed members. If your family is in need of support, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We have guidance counselors, a Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC), and support from the Alcohol/Substance Abuse Counseling Service (ASACS) program. Please let us know how we can support you.
Â
We have two requests for support from the whole Cougar community One is very simple. Many students have been arriving at school with their Chromebooks discharged. It is not always easy to charge them during class while we are working in flexible student settings. Please help your student remember to charge their equipment. Secondly, language has been repeatedly brought to my attention as a cause for concern in our school. Many students have been freely using language that is inappropriate for the school setting. We have met with several students and issued consequences when needed.  Vicenza High School will have no tolerance for racially or sexually insensitive/offensive remarks. Your support to help us sanitize the language being used on campus would be greatly appreciated. Â
Â
Practices for our winter athletic season began today. Please see the updated schedule (attached).
Â
Thank you for your continued support. Have a great week.
