  • Introductory Remarks/Review Agenda by SAC Chair.

IAC meeting was an excellent start to collaboration and two-way feedback.

  • Principal’s Report.
  1. IAC meeting was a productive meeting – focusing on school behavior and language.
    1. VHS will focus on language – professional and responsible.
    2. Admin. is addressing the concerns of culture and climate with a 30-60-90 day plan.
    3. Highlights of plan include:
      1. Discussions and collaborations with faculty – Digital referral form
      2. Seminar meetings with each grade level team this week and next week
        1. Introductions
        2. Expectations
        3. Language, cell phones, dress code
        4. Digital reporting for private reporting
      3. Town Hall before first basketball game to introduce admin to parents
      4. Meet with Student Council for a slogan
    4. Social Emotional Learning supports for staff implementation
  2. Accreditation year for Europe South – February 2023
    1. Superintendents designed a practice visit to prepare for the accreditation visit.
    2. Mock visit generated feedback for the staff and leadership
  3. Parent teacher conferences were successful but attendance was low.
    1. The AM was for walk-ins and the PM was by appointment.
    2. The set-up was well received.
    3. Conferences were not well-attended.
    4. European counselor summit negatively impacted conference attendance because parents who may have been contacted the week prior were not contacted.
    5. Parents did not receive the conference format early enough to plan.
    6. Discussion was held to brainstorm ideas for increasing parental engagement with parent-teacher conference day.
    7. Parents can always schedule appointments with teachers and counselors throughout the year.
  4. College Fair occurs tomorrow, Nov. 15 at the YS (over 30!), designed by VHS staff
  • School Liaison Officer’s (SLO) Report.
  1. Comprehensive, strategic Messaging
    1. Student Council – how can students support appropriate language and actions at schools?
    2. Typically schools are a subset of the greater community and their values.  The SLO has been working with the garrison to address this issue in the VMC. We want to have a cohesive community messaging, including CYS, SKIES, Youth Sports, ACS, etc.
    3. Similar concerns were raised at the elementary and middle schools
  2. Garrison and the SLO are receiving questions about unrest, tension, and deployments
    1. Drills and preparedness are key to 
  • PTSA Rep’s Report.
  1. PTSA events to support schools:  Teacher appreciation days, Book Fair Cart at MS and HS, Snack table for College Fair presenters
  2. Free popcorn for students and staff on some of the Fridays
  • Student Representative’s Report.
    • Lunch time options for seniors –  Students can go to YS and bring a lunch.  There are small snacks provided.
      • MWR is still working through lunch options such as delivery from the Arena
      • Food trucks are not an option with the current infrastructure due to electricity/water
    • Early dismissals: Afternoons are long and the class periods were wasted
      • Town hall meeting might include a rep from YS with the paperwork
      • Ms. Potter could possibly distribute paperwork to students too.
      • Could MWR do a needs survey to change programming for HS kids?
        • Draft as an issue and send to IAC
        • Consider a needs assessment for students for after school programs
        • Invite MWR Chief Sean Morton to the next SAC meeting
  • Open concept neighborhoods are loud and distracting
    • Student council had 146 complete the feedback form about the new school
      • Many students provided open response data.
      • Qualitative data needs to be reviewed
      • Additional measures can be taken to include noise reduction 
      • Walls can be closed for specific purposes such as timed writing for AP Lit 
      • Teachers can use a form and request the wall to close
      • Class environment is lacking due to teachers traveling between rooms (sterile)
    • Shuttle bus to Ederle?
      • The shuttle is an LRC asset and there are no soldiers living at Villaggio currently,  so therefore there is not a shuttle
      • Skies has a bus to lessons at the enclave and Ederle.
      • DODEA has a bus route parents could select from Ederle to Villagio.
      • Recommend push back to Garrison to brainstorm a solution.
    • Homecoming and games outside were a hit
    • First day and teacher planning showed…. It was a great first day.
  • Old Business:
  • Follow-up to IAC discussion of discipline issues, offensive/insensitive behavior. 
  • Ways to take advantage of the new school’s architecture, while also limiting noise that interferes with education.

  • Open Forum
  • Could new parents have a “Club Round-Up” where all clubs are listed and delineated for parents?
    • A list for parents and students of current active clubs and sponsor info.
    • Time/dates/meetings
    • Ms. Sansone has a flyer to edit and share with parents.
    • Teachers would like to re-visit the idea of clubs at Seminar or opting in.
