Model Senate
The Model Senate Program gives high school students, grades 9-12, the opportunity to actively engage in civics by representing a United States Senator in a simulation of the Senate’s legislative process. Students will research a wide variety of contemporary legislative issues and prepare bills for discussion and debate in lobbying meetings, party conferences, committee meetings, and in full plenary sessions. Knowledge of parliamentary procedures used in legislative debating is an essential part of preparation. In short, the Model Senate Program will provide a forum for students to use a wide range of communication skills and demonstrate their knowledge of complex real-world issues, as they seek to promote and pass legislative proposals in a dynamic and challenging simulation.
